Autumn is in the air…okay not yet but it is in my head, at least! For me, Autumn means pumpkins, Halloween, colorful leaves, and everything APPLE! Dreams about apple pie, cider, and crisp dance in my head all year so in anticipation of my favorite season, I’ve decided to share my recipe for canning apples.

While it can take awhile to prepare, homemade applesauce is so delicious and easy to share with family and neighbors. To figure out how much you need, keep in mind that 10.5lbs of apples will make 3.5 quarts of applesauce.

 

  1. Wash, peel, and cut apples into quarters. Put in a stockpot with 2″ of water. Cover and cook until soft. Add sugar to taste. You may use a hand-cranked strainer or food mill as well and reheat sauce to boiling.
  2. Pack hot applesauce in hot, clean jars. Leave 1/2″ headspace. Process quarts for 20 minutes.

There you have it! Super easy and delicious.
